The prime minister continues to have confidence in the national police chief

The government’s partner SD continues to demand the resignation of the national police chief. On Tuesday it happened again.

– We haven’t gotten the government on that bandwagon yet. But Anders Thornberg’s time is numbered so he will be replaced, says SD’s spokesperson for police affairs Katja Nyberg to The Express.

Nyberg believes that the police do not function “fully today” due to structural problems in the organization. She highlights the tours around the Koran burnings and the long waiting times for passports as examples.

But in an interview with SVT, the prime minister shows that he does not think that these days of gang violence are the right time to discuss Thornberg’s future, even though the national police chief’s appointment expires next year. The question is whether it should be extended or not?

– All such matters are dealt with in a completely separate order. I have confidence in the national police chief. Now we have to make sure to implement the changes that are underway to tackle serious crime – not deal with names and organizational issues.
