The price of this motorway has been soaring since January

A sharp increase in fares, up to 27% over a certain time slot, has been applied since January 1 on this motorway.

With “only” +0.92% on average, the increase in prices on French motorways will be particularly contained next year. Good news for millions of motorists who feared the worst after experiencing toll increases of around 4.75% in 2023 and 3% in 2024. As this is an average, some differences will be a little more marked here and there, but overall the major highway companies (Vinci Sanef, SAPN, APRR, Area) have set an increase flirting with 1%. The new prices will, like every year, be applicable from 1er next February.

A highway, however, is an exception. Already well known for being the most expensive in France, the A86 Duplex, in Île-de-France, will experience a colossal increase in its prices in certain time slots in 2025. We are not talking about an increase of 3 , 4 or 5%, which would already be considerable compared to the national average, but an increase of…27%! And when we know the exorbitant prices charged to take this 10 kilometer long tunnel, between Rueil-Malmaison (Hauts-de-Seine) and Vélizy (Yvelines), it will inevitably add up.

You should know that this portion of the motorway, the only paid part of the A86 which surrounds Paris, displays around fifteen different prices depending on the time of passage, often in 30-minute increments. And if many slots are only experiencing a marginal increase this year, a few have seen their prices skyrocket in recent days. This is particularly the case for the price on the section between Rueil-Malmaison and Vaucresson, where it is possible to join the A13 motorway. For motorists with a badge, traveling the 4.5 kilometers which separate the two cities between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. from Monday to Thursday cost 8.60 euros in 2024. They will have to pay more than 2 additional euros since the 1er January !

The new price was set at 11 euros by Cofiroute, a subsidiary of Vinci which provides the Duplex concession. Although it allows you to avoid a route that is very often congested, especially during rush hours, the A86 toll tunnel – limited to 70 kilometers/hour – is a luxury that many motorists cannot afford. And for those who frequently borrow it around 6 p.m., this significant increase in pricing can very quickly have repercussions on the wallet.

For example, a driver who takes the tunnel between Rueil-Malmaison and Vaucresson when leaving work between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. ten times a month would see his expenses increase by 24 euros (110 euros instead of 86). It’s expensive to go up to avoid traffic jams…
