The price of the popular product is shockingly increased – that’s what it costs at Ica

The price of the popular product is shockingly increased

News24 has previously written about a municipality where the elderly are no longer allowed to shop at Ica.

The reason is that the municipality’s home service has introduced that their users will be able to start shopping for food digitally and have their grocery bags delivered. And in Fagersta it has been decided that all food must be bought from Coop.

This means that those who due to illness, age or disability need home care in Fagersta will no longer be allowed to shop at Ica.

The decision has upset many.

ICA one of Sweden’s largest grocery chains

ICA, together with Coop and Axfood, accounts for approximately 90 percent of Sweden’s food sales, according to Axfood.

In a new review by the Matpriskollen, they state that the prices of food continue to rise and some products have had a shock increase in price recently.

The increase in September is said to be the largest in several months, according to the new calculation.

Food prices continue to increase in grocery stores

According to Matpriskollen, prices should have risen by an average of 0.2 percent last month.

— When we measure, it has been basically plus or minus zero in recent months. 0.2 percent doesn’t sound like much, but this is a mega industry, so every percent is several billions in higher food costs, says Ulf Mazur to Food price check.

But some products that already had a high price from the beginning have now received a shock increase.

Chocolate increased by 4.8 percent

Chocolate in general saw a 4.8 percent increase, due to the expensive cocoa bean being at historically high levels.

But some specific chocolate products increased even more in price. Namely the chocolate cookies.

– The chocolate cookies went up an average of 6.4 percent during September. Since January 2022, chocolate products have now increased by 44 percent and a 200 gram Marabou cake is up 64 percent while an Aladdinask has increased 70 percent, says Ulf Mazur to Food price check.

Today, a regular 200 gram Marabou chocolate bar costs on average around SEK 31.90 at Ica.

However, the price may be both higher and lower due to local offers and variations. On Ica Maxi in Umeå the chocolate bar costs, for example, SEK 30.90 while the chocolate bar on Ica Maxi in Bromma costs SEK 32.95.

A 500 gram Aladdin chocolate box with pralines costs around SEK 120 at Ica.

Even at Coop, the price for a 200 gram Marabou chocolate cake is over SEK 30.
