The price of electricity rises sharply

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

The average price for Monday in electricity areas SE3 and SE4 – in southern Sweden – rises to SEK 1:67 per kilowatt hour. In the electricity areas SE1 and SE2 – in northern Sweden – the daily price rises to SEK 1:35 per kilowatt hour.

The price level can be compared with price levels in the country between 28 and 83 öre per kilowatt hour on Friday and 33 öre to 1:32 kroner per kilowatt hour during the weekend.

For ordinary electricity customers, profit margins for electricity companies, electricity tax, VAT and electricity network fee of around SEK 1:50 per kilowatt hour are added on top of the price the electricity retailers at Nord Pool pay.

To find a higher electricity price than Monday’s in southern Sweden, you have to go back to the beginning of February. In the two northern electricity areas, Monday’s price will be the highest since the peaks in mid-January.

The price increase follows the fact that OKG AB, which operates the nuclear power plant in Oskarshamn, took reactor 3 out of operation for just over a week last Friday. During the stop, what is described as a “fuel damage” is to be repaired.

The reactor normally produces 1,400 megawatts, which corresponds to 10 percent of Sweden’s electricity needs.

Since August last year, reactor 4 at the Ringhals nuclear power plant has also been out of operation, with a planned restart on March 19.

At the same time, weather forecasts show a cold snap in large parts of the country later this week.

Sweden has a total of six nuclear power reactors, three in Forsmark, two in Ringhals and one in Oskarshamn.
