One of the streets, which is located in the center of Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, and which is considered a historical symbol, was named “The Street of the Republic of Turkey”.
Turkey’s Ambassador to Caracas Naci Aydan Karamanoğlu, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil, Caracas Mayor Carmen Melendez, Turkish citizens living in Venezuela and representatives of many institutions attended the opening of the Turkish Republic Avenue.
Foreign Minister Gil shared the photos of the opening on his Twitter account and said, “Within the scope of Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, we participated in the opening of the Republic of Turkey Avenue with Ambassador Aydan Karamanoğlu as a gesture to the brotherhood that unites our people.” used the phrase.
Caracas Mayor Melendez said on his social media account, “We wrote a new page in the history of the two countries by opening the Turkish Republic Avenue in the center of Caracas with Mr. Karamanoğlu and Foreign Minister Gil.” made its assessment.
In the statement made by the Turkish Embassy in Caracas, it was stated that the decision to change the name of one of the streets leading to Bolivar Square to Republic of Turkey Street was welcomed.
Pointing out the importance of the ceremony coinciding with the 19 May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, the statement stated that the cooperation between Turkey and Venezuela will continue and Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Center will be opened in Caracas soon.
Ambassador Karamanoğlu thanked Foreign Minister Gil and Caracas Mayor Melendez for their contributions.
