The prestige signing now leaves Färjestad – without having played a single match

Only a month ago he signed for Färjestad BK.
Now it is clear that the prestige signing is leaving immediately.
– We have chosen to cancel the collaboration, says sports director Rickard Wallin.

Färjestad was very pleased to have received the prestigious signing. After several years in the NHL and AHL, the goalkeeper was recruited Jonas Johansson home to Sweden with high expectations.

Leaving Färjestad

The plan was that 27-year-old Johansson would make up with the young promise Carl Lindbom for first place between the posts for the coming season. But just a month after he signed big it is now clear that the new signing is leaving immediately – without having made a single match.

35 NHL games

The reason is that the 27-year-old will most likely play in the NHL next season instead.
– Given that he will probably continue his NHL career, we do not want to take chances, but choose to finish and move on and not wait for the deadline for NHL transfers. We have received strong indications that this will be the case, and this was a scenario we naturally did not count on. It’s of course sad when it doesn’t turn out as you’d hoped, but now we’re shifting our focus to finding a colleague for Carl Lindbom, says Wallin in the statement.

Jonas Johansson has spent the last six seasons in North America and has bounced between the NHL and AHL for quite some time. Last season there were only three NHL games for the Colorado Avalanche and 26 games for the farm team Colorado Eagles.

In total, there have been 35 NHL games in his career.
