The president of South Korea is not allowed to leave the country

The Ministry of Justice announced that a travel ban has been issued for Yoon as he is under investigation, South Korean news agency Yonhap reports.

The president shocked his countrymen and the world late last Tuesday when he declared a state of emergency with associated martial law. He justified it with, among other things, that the opposition paralyzes the government’s work. He was forced to back down just six hours later, after the 190 MPs who rushed to parliament voted unanimously against it.

Since then, the pressure on the president to leave office has increased. Early Saturday, Yoon apologized, but he refuses to resign.

Later on Saturday, he escaped impeachment in parliament after his fellow party members, with a few exceptions, boycotted the vote.

This is an illegal, unconstitutional act that should be considered a second coup, opposition party Park Chan-Dae told Yonhap on Monday about President Yoon’s refusal to step down.

On Sunday, the country’s former defense minister, Kim Yong-Hyun, was arrested, who is accused of having played a large part in the chaos that followed the sudden state of emergency.

The opposition has announced that they will try to get a new vote on impeachment on December 14, Saturday.
