Trump previously threatened Panama with taking over the canal that runs through it.

President of Panama José Raúl Mulino has answered strictly the future president of the United States Donald Trump’s to the exit regarding the Panama Canal.

Trump previously threatened that the United States would take back control of the canal because, according to him, Panama collects unreasonable fees from US ships using the canal.

In a video message published on the messaging service X, President Mulino emphasized that Panama’s sovereignty and independence are not matters of negotiation.

– Every square meter of the Panama Canal and the areas around the canal belong to Panama and this will be the case in the future as well, Mulino announced.

The canal began to be built at the beginning of the 20th century, mainly with American forces. Panama took final control of the canal area at the beginning of 2000.
