Italian President Sergio Mattarella has dissolved parliament and new elections are pending after Prime Minister Mario Draghi tendered his resignation. Draghi is believed to lead a transitional government until the elections this autumn, where the far right looks to be able to make a strong progress.
– The political situation led to this decision, Mattarella said in a short televised speech, reports AFP
No date has been set for a new election, but Mattarella says it must be held within 70 days in accordance with the country’s constitution.
