In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), President Felix Tshisekedi is neither a seeker nor a taker of the “national cohesion” dialogue proposed by opponent Martin Fayulu. It was from Budapest, Hungary, that the Head of State of the DRC spoke out after several weeks of silence around this call from Martin Fayulu, twice unsuccessful presidential candidate (2018, 2023) and which divides the Congolese opposition to this day. Martin Fayulu launched a call for dialogue to find solutions to the problems facing the DRCstarting with the insecurity in the east of the country. A proposal swept aside by President Félix Tshisekedi: “ I am not at the origin of such an initiative because, for me, the country is not in a political crisis to seek to still hold dialogues which will lead to arrangements which will once again put the country on hold. We really don’t see the need or the urgency. There is no such initiative in the works anywhere. »
“ Felix Tshisekedi seems not to understand the seriousness of the facts »
For Martin Fayulu’s Lamuka coalition, the proposal did not revolve around job sharing. For his spokesperson, Prince Epenge, the president missed the opportunity to unite the country around the Rwandan aggression: “ We have done our part. It is a constitutional duty. Felix Tshisekedi seems not to understand the seriousness of the facts. We are convinced that Felix Tshisekedi did not understand anything in what we proposed. He thinks that now is not the time to unite the Congolese. On the other hand, he thinks that now is the time to tamper with the Constitution to stay in power. We take note. In his world, everything is fine. But for the Congolese people, everything is bad. And therefore, there must be unity. »
Lamuka changes tack and promises mobilizations to denounce the ambitions of a revision of the Constitution carried out by the presidential party. Martin Fayulu also campaigns for electoral reforms before 2028, in particular that of the electoral commission.
