Since 2006, Lyxfällan has been broadcast on TV3, and from the start has aroused great interest among the Swedish people.
In the program, people with financial problems get help to get back on track. With the help of the presenters, a completely new budget is set up, gadgets are sold off and loans are negotiated and combined. At the end of the week, the goal is that the participants’ finances should look significantly better, and that they should no longer go back several thousand every month.
The change in the new Lyxfällen – big difference: “It’s noticeable”
Magnus Hedberg and Magdalena Kowalczyk are presenters for Lyxfällan
The luxury trap has had several different presenters, but right now it is the economists Magnus Hedberg and Magdalena Kowalczyk who shoulders the role. And the popular presenters have over the years helped countless participants start afresh.

Magdalena Kowalczyk: “It will be even trickier to…”
The last few years have, for many, been tougher financially than in a long time. Skyrocketing food prices, rising interest rates and expensive bills have meant that more people than ever have to hold tight to their pennies. Magdalena Kowalczyk explains that Lyxfällan’s way of working is the same, despite the global situation. But there are certain aspects that make the situation more challenging.
— Our working methods and message are independent of the outside world. The knowledge, understanding and taking responsibility for one’s own decisions – that is constant, says Magdalena Kowalczyk and continues:
– Then the outside world has changed so basic costs, such as food on the table and a roof over your head, are more expensive. This makes it even trickier to get budgets to match. The budgets we leave behind, given the income, are even tighter. The problem must be solved in the same way. A personal acceptance of responsibility by our participants, a willingness to solve their problems and to change their ways. Our help and our negotiation are the same.

What was the biggest challenge as a presenter during this season of Lyxfällan? Magnus Hedberg has told me that News24.
– Somewhere, I think that the most important thing for me personally is not to end up in some kind of “auto mode”, that you go in and just do it out of routine. It is clear that there is a lot of routine after so many seasons, but it is extremely important to disconnect from it, says Hedberg and adds:
– Once you are in place with the participant, there must be 110 percent presence in that particular person’s situation and life and the reason why they have ended up in these problems. I think that is important. That you actually really get involved and understand how it is that this person sits where they sit.
