In 2005, SVT brought in a new entertainment program aimed at the younger target group. It was named “Amigo”, and quickly became a success.
In the fun, and according to the statement “often quirky” program, three teams compete in different branches. In the original program idea, the team that went out first got to ride in the so-called “disco tunnel” as a consolation prize. The team that emerged victorious from the battle could at best win a trip abroad, after a nerve-wracking quiz in Amigo’s prize ladder.
Host of the first two seasons was the exuberant Peter Rylanderwho after the 2006 season was replaced by the at least as energetic Ola Selmén.
Peter Rylander had to leave Amigo: “Then I was selected”
The reason must have been that SVT changed the program idea and no longer considered that Rylander was the right man for the job.
– I want to emphasize that there is no conflict between me and SVT, and no harsh words. It’s just that they want to remake “Amigo” so that the program also reaches an older audience. And then I was selected, said Peter Rylander in an interview with The Express 2006.
– We go our separate ways as friends. Of course we will compensate Peter Rylander financially when we dissolve the contract we had with him, said the then SVT program manager Johan Grafström to the newspaper.
What happened to the Amigo presenter?
Maybe you hum the classic “Amigo team, you’re cool. You’re heroes, at your school” tune every now and then, and wonder what became of that cheerful host in the light blue suit?
On his website you can read that he currently works as a DJ, conference host and lecturer. He has also worked as an audience warmer in TV programs such as “Gladiators” and “That’s how it sounds”.
Criticism of Peter Rylander’s “respect gym”
In 2019, his lecture “Respektgympa” made headlines in Mariestad, where Rylander was accused of blaming parents.
Upset parents must have considered that the lecture did more harm than good, but Rylander himself had a hard time understanding that.
– I have been doing this for 14 years and have never experienced anything like this. In Mariestad, both students, educators and parents have said that this was very good and that it was needed, he told SVT.
Peter Rylander regarded the criticism as a drive, the aim of which was to spread incorrect information about him in social media.
