the PPA-CI asks again that its executives and Laurent Gbagbo recover all their civic rights

the PPA CI asks again that its executives and Laurent Gbagbo

In Côte d’Ivoire, Laurent Gbagbo’s opposition party, the PPA-CI, held a press conference yesterday, Thursday April 13. The party notably took stock of the changes made one year after the political dialogue. The opportunity to reiterate a request: that of an amnesty for the former head of state.

For the PPA-CI, the dialogue made it possible to have ” advancements with, in particular, the reinstatement of certain civil servants in the public services. But this approach remains incomplete: the PPA-CI asks the Ministers of Justice and the Interior to look into the case of magistrates and police officers returning from exile, who have still not been reinstated in their posts. .

Another question: that of the amnesty of the former president, Laurent Gbagbo, who was admittedly acquitted by the ICC, but remains under a sentence of twenty years in prison in Côte d’Ivoire. But the presidential pardon granted by the Ivorian head of state last summer, does not allow him to recover his civic rights.

Justin Koné Katinan, the spokesperson of the PPA-CI, therefore asks for the respect of the commitments made in the Political Dialogue. One of the resolutions was to pass an amnesty law to correct the injustices that have been done to all the people who have been wrongfully condemned and deprived of their civic rights. The Head of State granted a pardon, that is not what we asked of him. In any case, a mechanism must be found to enable, as the Political Dialogue wished, these personalities to return and reintegrate into a normal life. »
