The photo shared by Norwegian Minister of Justice Emilie Enger Mehl from her vacation in Italy drew the reaction of the opposition and many people in the country. It was stated that Mehl, who posed by standing on a rowing board without a life jacket, violated Norwegian law.
Emilie Enger Mehl, Norway’s youngest minister, spoke to the country’s Dagbladet newspaper on the back of criticism, saying, “The photo was taken in Italy, where I was on vacation with my friends and had a good time. Wherever I am, I obey the laws and instructions. I wish everyone a nice and safe summer; both on land and in water,’ she said.
IT IS NOT MANDATORY TO WEAR A VEST IF CLOSE TO LAND
Finance Minister Trygve Slagsvold also said he doesn’t see it as a problem for Mehl to stand on a rowing board during the holidays. In addition, the Norwegian Maritime Directorate made a statement on the subject and drew attention to the fact that vests are not obligatory in places close to the land.
