At the first municipal council of the term in Norrtälje, the new board surprised the opposition with a substantial increase in fees, reports Norrtelje Tidning.
The municipality is now governed by the Moderates, the Christian Democrats, the Liberals and the Sweden Democrats. The Center Party has gone into opposition.
The parties presented at Monday’s full council the proposal that the municipal board’s chairman’s fee should be calculated at 60 percent of the prime minister’s fee, instead of 60 percent of what the ministers – i.e. the ministers – earn.
The opposition raged against the proposal, of which they had not been informed, but were met with silence from the new government. The change was then hammered through.
The new wording gave municipal board chairman Bino Drummond (M) a salary increase from SEK 87,000 to SEK 110,400 a month, according to the newspaper. The other municipal councillors’ fees are in turn based on what the chairman earns.
Drummond afterwards referred to party colleague Staffan Tjörnhammar.
– It is wise for the council to choose to evaluate political work. We have seen that there has been a shortfall in the fee, which has not created good conditions, says Tjörnhammar to NT.
