Despite his very busy schedule, the head of the Gabonese transition took all his time to listen to the leaders of the political parties who made the trip. The meeting lasted four hours.

General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema was clear. The transition he directs is an exceptional regime. As such, he suggested that the functioning of political life should also become exceptional: no more opposition, no more majority, during this period.

About the duration of the transition, a subject that focuses the interest of the political class, Oligui Nguema indicated that he will not decide alone. Political parties will be consulted. According to the first elements of language that came out of this meeting, a one-year, or even two-year transition was mentioned.

This period will allow the texts and laws that will govern the Republic to be drawn up. The transition will end with the organization of free and credible elections, insisted General Oligui Nguema.

What do the political parties think of these consultations?

Reaction of Clay Martial Obame Akwe, vice-president of Morena, who welcomes the initiatives launched by the putschists.

What reassured us was that he gave us the responsibility to determine the duration of the transition. They did not come to perpetuate themselves in power, they came to settle a certain number of things so that Gabon restores its dignity.
