– It was no accident. It’s hard to know at the beginning if it’s something that happened in the heat of battle, but we understood pretty early on that it wasn’t. Our view is that it is a planned act, says Palmgren.
The 22-year-old was arrested in The Hague in the Netherlands on August 9 and taken to Umeå two days later. He has previously been convicted of serious drug offences.
– We have a hypothesis that they belonged to different sides of the drug market in Umeå. But exactly why they met there is difficult to know, what is true and what is not.
“You have to be careful to swish”
During a search of the house after the shooting, the police found around 8.5 kilos of narcotics and around SEK 100,000 in cash, weapons and explosives.
– The drug was intended for Umeå in the first place, but also Skellefteå.
No clear “wish list” has emerged in connection with this crackdown, but Palmgren believes that it may appear in cases going forward.
– We always check it in the case of serious crimes, how it was sold. In this case, it is about such large quantities of drugs that you don’t sell hectons but kilos, and the subcontractor divides it up and has the wish list.
– You have to be careful to swish, cash is king. Only criminals and pensioners have cash, he says.
“No one is safe”
This spring’s major drug crackdown has had some effect on the drug market.
– It has been a little quieter during the summer. But if big players disappear, a new one will come and take over. There is a great demand for drugs in Umeå and always will be. But we are always on the lookout for those who want to take over, no one is safe, says the head of intelligence.
Prosecutor Petra Hedberg has until September 9 to bring charges. Most likely, the time will be extended.
– We continue to hold interviews and await analyses, she says.
A total of six people are detained.
