The police in North Jutland in Denmark were called to a home in Vester Hassing after reports of animal abuse.

What they hadn’t expected was to find 88 king pythons inside the house.

Ten of the snakes were dead and one of them had to be euthanized by the police. The other 77 were taken care of by a snake expert after a veterinarian examined them.

It is unclear how the snakes died, but police say they were malnourished and dehydrated.

According to police chief Henrik Jensen, the owner had a hobby of owning snakes, he has now been reported for violating the Animal Act.

The king python is the smallest of the python species, and grows to just over a meter in length.
