– The criminals are offensive and parents need to be as well, says Gustav Ingolfson, head of the area police in Eskilstuna.
He says that, like in the rest of Sweden, recruitment of young people to criminal networks is taking place in Eskilstuna. A problem that he believes the police themselves cannot stop.

– We need the parents’ help and have had several campaigns to draw attention to the recruitment. Parents must be involved in their children’s lives.
“Many are not criminally competent”
He also emphasizes the importance that the police must build relationships with the young.
– We try to explain to the young people what the consequences can be of the choices they make today, many are not criminally liable, but it will affect them for the rest of their lives if they make the wrong choice, he says.
But what do you want to say to those who think that you, on the part of the police, have not succeeded in stopping this development?
– We have a lot of priorities we have to deal with. There are shootings and we need to be able to investigate those crimes and we need everyone’s help. But it is clear that it would have been easier if there were more police officers, he says.
