The police already have temporary cameras in Nyfors, Årby, Bellmansplan and Skiftinge.
Decisive in case of crime
– The cameras have in several incidents been of great importance or even crucial in the investigation of serious violent crimes, says municipal police Elin Johansson.
The new cameras will be set up in Fröslunda, Lagersberg and Råbergstorp. Eskilstuna municipality already has six cameras in Fröslunda and four cameras in Årby.
– We have seen that, among other things, there has been reduced vandalism, says Eva Carlsson, crime prevention coordinator at Eskilstuna municipality.
Cameras were vandalized
SVT has previously reported that the municipality’s cameras were vandalized shortly after they were set up in Årby. However, the police cameras have survived.
– They are strategically placed to minimize the risk of sabotage, says Elin Johansson.
Exactly when and how many cameras there will be in the new areas is unclear. Elin Johansson says that the cameras will be set up during the year and onwards in the form of fixed installations, which will also replace temporary cameras.
