The police warns of SMS children

On Tuesday, the North Police Region has received eight fraud cases where so-called SMS children contacted people and claimed to be their real children or grandchildren.

For example, it may be that the fraudster wants to get money quickly. For example, they may claim that they need help paying an invoice that is about to decay.

“My phone broke down and I have a new number”

The police give an example of what a text message might look like:

“Hello mom! My phone broke so got a new one and I have a new number. Save this and erase the old one. Confirm when you are done, ”you write on your website.

The police are now urging people to be vigilant and ask control questions. If you get a text message that you think looks strange, you should primarily call your child or grandchild and check that it is really the ones who have heard of them.
