Whether or not the A-tractors are good or not has been a hotly debated question lately. And during the autumn holiday week, the police in Väst carried out 300 checks of A-tractors. And the outcome shows that two-thirds of the vehicles are modified or have defects that are illegal and dangerous to traffic. That’s what the West police write on theirs website.
– The primary thing for us is to find signs that the tractor has been manipulated so that it can be driven at more than 30 km per hour, says Hans Qvant, traffic police in Halmstad.
Qvint has previously said he wants to ban A-tractors, calling them “lethal toys”.
Although the maximum permitted speed is 30 kilometers per hour, a manipulated A-tractor can reach the same speeds as a passenger car and the cheating is often difficult to detect, according to the police.
– This can be quite tricky, there are a lot of tricks and nowadays a lot of it is electronic. We therefore have our car inspectors with us to help, says Hans Qvant.

To drive an A-tractor, a driver’s license with AM authorization is required, i.e. moped class I driver’s license (sometimes called a moped driver’s license), or a tractor license. The age limit for obtaining an AM driving license is 15 years and for a tractor license it is 16 years.
