The administrative court announced on Tuesday that it is revoking the police’s decision not to allow Koran burnings outside the embassies of Turkey and Iraq.
The police had made the decision with reference to the fact that the threat to Sweden has been affected by previous Koran burnings and that the risk of terrorist attacks would increase if future burnings were allowed. But that argument has no support in the law, according to the administrative court.
— It is a criticism of the Police Authority because the administrative court annuls the police’s decision. But at the same time, we maintain that our decision was made correctly, says police spokesperson Ola Österling to TT.
The police will now analyze both the verdict and their own justification for denying the Koran burnings.
“We will complete that analysis before we make a decision on whether we should let the judgment gain legal force or whether we should appeal it to the Court of Appeal,” says Österling.
The analysis work is expected to take up to ten days.
— We must weigh the assessment in the administrative court against our own justification and then make a decision.
