The parade was intended to be held in 2020, after the rainbow flag was stopped from being hoisted at the town hall in Sölvesborg. Due to the pandemic, the organizer Karlskrona Pride has now had an extra long time to plan and cooperate with both the municipality and the police.

Louise Englund, head of the local police area Karlshamn, talks about the police’s main task during tomorrow’s parade.

– Our role is to maintain order and safety for everyone who comes to Sölvesborg to get on the train, says Englund.

Approximately 5,000 participants are estimated to participate in the pride train. Furthermore, Englund says that the police are used to intervening in emerging situations and that this parade does not differ from other events that they handle.

– We have not received anything that gives indications of disturbances tomorrow. The organizer has taken heights with volunteers to ensure security on site.

After previous events

Most recently yesterday, a man was taken into custody by police in Karlskrona after making Nazi gestures against the pride parade that marched through the city.

Niklas Kilsgård, operations coordinator for LPO Karlshamn, says that they have made risk assessments based on previous events and that they feel safe with the preparations that have been made.

– We have had the opportunity to look at it and take the measures we have found suitable, says Kilsgård.
