The assignment in encrypted chat: “Seeking Yappare” • Police’s decision: “Provocative measures”
“Sub Zero”, a user on the encrypted communication channel Signal, sent out calls to people who wanted to carry out a serious violent crime in Gothenburg for payment.
The person wants to get hold of someone who could kill someone as quickly as possible and sent out the text: “Seeking Yappare ASAP”. This message went out in several different chats on signal.
Contacts the user
The Swedish police decided to create an account and contact “Sub Zero”. The goal was to win the person’s trust in order to identify and arrest the person behind the alias.
According to the preliminary investigation protocol, there was credible information that a shooting was planned somewhere the Gothenburg area and that a weapon would be handed over to a potential provider.
The police chose to use secret coercive measures in the form of infiltration and provocative measures. The decision was made in November last year and the police claimed to be a possible performer to the act.
“Initially, the purpose is that the police, through infiltration and provocative measures, undertake an assignment that the user sub Zero and Goku offers for payment. The goal is to identify the user Sub Zero and Goku as well as his or her any assistants and to obtain information that is important for the investigation to be able to prove crime and identify the plaintiff, ”the preliminary investigation protocol states.

Now a young man, who is believed to be behind the alias “Sub Zero” is being prosecuted for stamping for murder. In the chats you can also read that another alias is called “Goku”. The police write that it is unclear if it is the same natural person behind both users but that the infiltration and provocation are expected to lead to being able to prove crime.
In the chats, the police pretend to be at school but write that they may be ready to perform the deed soon.
