The police officer who shot an unarmed man in London was charged with murder – in protest, many police officers refuse to carry a weapon anymore

The police officer who shot an unarmed man in London

Because of the protest, soldiers were put on alert last week to ensure the safety of London.

A large number of police officers in the London area have refused to carry a gun. The reason behind the refusal is the murder charge received by a police officer working in the city.

The police were charged after shooting an unarmed man in Streatham Hill, south-east London, in September 2022. The 24-year-old was shot dead by the police officer, known to the public as NX121 Chris Kaban through the car windshield.

Made from shooting official investigation according to the police had chased the car driven by Kaba in an unmarked car. The police did not use an alarm sound or lights. The reason for the chase was that the car in question was suspected to be related to a previous gun crime.

In the end, the police were able to stop Kaba’s escape, when a car with police badges prevented this journey from continuing.

The police tried in vain to order Kaba out of the car. One of the police officers on the scene fired one shot after Kaba had crashed into the police car. The shot to the head was fatal.

The death of a dark-skinned man by a police bullet led to protests demanding justice for Kaba.

On the other hand, the police being brought to court accused of murder has made his colleagues angry and worried about their own position in similar cases.

As many as 300 police officers refused to carry a weapon

According to the British broadcasting company BBC, about 300 police officers announced that they no longer carry weapons.

Not all British police are automatically armed. In London, for example, there are about 2,500 such police officers.

The police protest quickly led to soldiers being put on standby and police officers from other parts of the country being ordered to London.

On Monday The BBC reportsthat the soldiers were on standby, because there were enough armed policemen on duty.

Yesterday, however, three anonymous police officers presented on the Sky News news channel a new threat. If the accused policeman’s name comes out in court, there will be another refusal of weapons.

According to the police management, the concern about being prosecuted is now great among the police officers and these families.

Minister of the Interior Suella Braverman has stood in support of the police. He posted a show of support for the police on X (formerly Twitter).

– Theirs [poliisien] should not have to fear that he will end up in the dock while performing his duties. The police officers who risk their lives to keep us safe have my full support. I will do everything I can to support them, Braverman wrote.
