What has stood out during the boating week is above all the youth drunkenness and that there have been many minors out late at night. The young people have come from both nearby municipalities and counties. In addition to the field workers of the social service, the police also received help from the youth emergency in Uppsala to curb unrest among young people who had traveled there. Several minors were taken into custody due to intoxication and handed over to guardians and social services field workers on site.
Several crimes have been reported
11 cases of assault (of which two were serious), 4 drunk driving, 3 sexual offences, as well as several cases of drug offences, vandalism, drunkenness and illegal use of jet skis were reported during the week. In addition to that, 23 people were taken into custody for drunkenness and over 20 people were removed from the scene due to disorderly conduct.
During the week, the police carried out upwards of 60 pub visits, which resulted in around ten inspection reports on deficiencies. Among other things, a high level of intoxication, serving alcohol to minors and having exceeded the number of guests compared to what you have permission to have.
– The festival has had record attendance this year and it has also been noticed in Öregrund in general. Overall, there has also been a higher degree of intoxication among the visitors than in previous years, preferably during evenings and nights. A decisive factor in many of the crimes that took place is unfortunately the high level of intoxication, says Robert Sverlert, police operations manager for the boat week.
The police will now, together with other actors, evaluate our joint effort to see what we can improve for next year’s boating week.
On the part of the police, the chief of police would like to thank the good cooperation with field workers from Östhammar municipality, Uppsala youth center, security guards, local traffic personnel, rescue services, the coast guard, the organizers and other cooperation partners.
