— They found something that resembled a military object, which they took ashore, says Johnny Gustavsson, press spokesperson at the police.
After analyzing images, police decided to send their National Bomb Squad to the scene – who chose to detonate the suspected grenade on the spot.
“They became somewhat unsure about what type of charge the grenade had, so they took the safe bet,” says Johnny Gustavsson.
— It was obvious that it was a grenade, but not what type.
It is unclear how well-visited the beach was, but the police state that no major barrier had to be erected. The police do not suspect any crime in connection with the incident.
— It is basically impossible to investigate this. The grenade had probably been lying on the bottom of the lake for a long time, says Johnny Gustavsson.
