The police after the shootings in Eskilstuna: Security zone may become relevant

The man who was taken to hospital after Saturday’s shooting is not seriously injured, his family told the police. Now the police are in an intensive investigation phase after the two shootings, says Camilla Helgesson, head of the investigation section at the police.

– We have found some technical evidence that we have sent away, we are waiting to receive an answer to that. Otherwise, the usual investigative work is ongoing.

  • Does not exclude safety zone

Deputy local police area chief Robert Åkerström says that it may be appropriate to introduce a security zone in Eskilstuna, meaning that the police will be given extended powers to, among other things, search people and search vehicles without concrete suspicion of crime. It is too early to say which areas it would apply to and to what extent.

    – It is a tool that we are considering. The aim is to prevent more violent crimes, says Robert Åkerström.

The police are expected to make a decision about the safety zone in Eskilstuna at the beginning of next week.
