At the World Ice Hockey Championships, the battle for semi-finals and medal games will begin on Thursday. If, for some reason, it happens that no medals will be awarded to Leijon, then at least one medal will remain in Finland.

– I’m reportedly getting one medal to commemorate. It will be marked that the medal is a piece by a designer, a Kemiläinen graphic artist Pauli Maronen smiling.

He has designed tiles to hang on the neck of medalists on Sunday. He won a design competition organized by the Finnish Hockey Association and Moneta, which was attended by about 70 designers from all over the world.

This year, players will receive angular medals around their necks.

– I wanted to break a bit of boundaries and do something other than a completely round medal, the designer says.

Maronen sought inspiration from, among other things, the fine architecture of Tampere’s new arena.

– When it comes to hockey medals, the key part is also the character of the hockey player behind the medal, Maronen says.

The color of Marose’s medal is still a mystery

Maronen has watched Finnish games for the most part in front of the television. Earlier, he visited Tampere as an invited guest of the Hockey Association to witness Finland’s goal rejoicing against Great Britain.

Also on the weekend, he will be able to watch the races on the spot as the medals he designed will reach the neck of their owners.

For Marose, it is the ultimate fulfillment of the work.

– I can’t imagine now, but it’s probably pretty great. I would definitely like those brightest medals to be in the necks of Finns.

There is plenty more exciting, as Pauli Maronen does not yet know the color of his own medal.
