The player dies the first time he rolls the dice – due to a peculiarity of his class

There are numerous classes and subclasses in Baldur’s Gate 3. One player thought that a special feature of his class would give him a lot of fun – but instead he died on the first roll of the dice.

A player reports on Reddit that he wanted to test out a special wizard subclass in Baldur’s Gate 3 in his new run. He chose a sorcerer of “wild magic”. The subclass gives wizards a connection to chaotic magic, resulting in unpredictable events and effects.

This means that when you cast a spell, an additional effect can occur – this can be beneficial, harmful, or a mixture of both, depending on the effect and the context in which it occurs (via Baldur’s Gate Wiki). An unforeseen moment caused the death of the player character of “WunWunSituation” – right at the beginning.

Here’s how you can cast two spells in one turn:

“Wild magic is fun, right?”

What kind of moment was that? In his post on Reddit on January 14th, “WunWunSituation” describes an unforeseen situation that meant an early end for his player character:

I just started a new run and wanted to try out a “wild magic” caster, because wild magic is fun, right? So I climb out of the capsule and thought it would be best if I equipped myself with “Mage Armor” first.

Well, Wild Magic triggered and a Mephit spawned. A few unfortunate throws later, I was dead without even leaving the first room. Let’s do this again!

The Mephit, which was triggered by the “Wild Magic”, apparently surprised the player in the Nautiloid – the first area that you explore in Baldur’s Gate 3. By the way, you can get a powerful weapon from Commander Zhalk there.

What do other players say about this? The Reddit post has over 6,900 upvotes and more than 270 comments. One of the top comments comes from “BigZach1”. The user thinks it would be even better if this was the first attempt at an Honor Run. And “trengilly” replies: “Ha! Yes, Wild Magic Wizard is the ultimate difficulty mode for the Honor Run!”

“tincanicarus” writes in the comment to the post that this should be an achievement. Another user writes: “I’ve lost count of how many times a big battle has gone wrong because all my characters spontaneously turned into cats.” And “Earis” writes: “I love this game and all the nonsense that goes into it you can get caught up.”

Honor mode is a special challenge in Baldur’s Gate 3. Here you only have a single save file and “save scumming”, i.e. excessive reloading to always get the perfect result, is not possible.

In the mode, a player did not die heroically in battle or through an unfortunate explosion, but through a dialogue option: Baldur’s Gate 3: After 30 hours of meticulous planning, Honor mode ends with a dialogue choice
