The platform X closes accounts after unrest in Turkey

The platform X, which is owned by tech billionaire Elon Musk, has shut down several people’s accounts in politically troubled Turkey, reports the news site Politico.

Extensive regime -critical protests are in progress in Turkey’s largest city Istanbul after the popular mayor Ekrem Imamoglu was arrested on Wednesday. On Friday night, the opposition party stated that over 300,000 protesters gathered in Istanbul – and much of the contacts between protesters are made via social platforms.

A majority of the accounts closed by X belong to “activists with links to universities”, according to Yusuf Can, an analyst at the think tank Wilson Center’s Middle Eastern Division.
