Plane crash in South Korea – all but two feared dead

The plane from low-cost airline Jeju Air, a Boeing 737-800, took off from Bangkok at 01:30 local time.
After a five-hour flight, they approached Muan International Airport in South Korea.
There the plane crashed when they failed to fold out the landing gear.
179 people are feared dead.

The last minutes before the crash
The accident is believed to have been caused by a collision with a flock of birds, Yonhap reports.
Weather conditions were also investigated as a suspected cause of the crash.
Now investigators from the South Korean Ministry of Transport have revealed information about six critical minutes before the crash.
08.57 air traffic controllers warn the incoming flight about the flock of birds. One minute later, at 08.58, the pilot calls out a “mayday”. At 09.00 the plane went in for landing.
At 09.03 the plane crashed after it skidded over the runway at full speed.
All indications are that it will be the deadliest plane crash in South Korea’s history.
