Mälardalstrafik plans to gradually increase the number of departures with Mälartåg on several routes from and including 15 December 2024.
Most new departures will be between Stockholm and Uppsala as SJ ends its regional train service on the route.
But there is a downside.
“Pressure on the organization”
– It puts a lot of pressure on the organization and we will have smaller margins than before, especially regarding vehicles and personnel. However, we do not see that we can leave the travelers wind by wave, but step forward to meet their needs for regional train traffic between the cities, says Anton Fendert, chairman of the board of Mälardalstrafik in a press release.
Today, Mälartåg has problems with canceled and delayed departures. The number of passengers who sought compensation from Mälartåg has also increased. Something you can hear more about in the clip below.
New departures in Sörmland
Other routes are also planned to have new departures:
• Ten new departures are planned between Eskilstuna and Västerås during weekdays and supplementary direct buses during weekends.
• The first morning departure from Nyköping to Norrköping is again planned to be run by train instead of the direct bus that served the departure in 2024.
• A total of three new departures on Saturdays and four new departures on Sundays are planned between Nyköping and Stockholm, but only from spring 2025.
