With Season 4, a new endgame activity was added to Diablo 4: The Pit. What you need to start the activity, which Mats for completion You can find out when you get it and what level the pit has here on MeinMMO.
What is the pit? The Pit is a new endgame activity that came with Season 4 in Diablo 4. It is a new dungeon that functions roughly like a Greater Rift from Diablo 3:
Where can I find the pit? You open the pit by interacting with the “Artificer Obelisk” in Cerrigar as soon as you have unlocked the activity. Inside the pit you will find numerous monsters that you kill. Then you will reach a final boss via several portals. And the whole thing is timed.
The Pit – Unlocking and Leveling
How do I unlock the pit? To unlock the activity, you must first complete a quest. You will receive this as soon as you move to World Level 4. The quest requires completing a Nightmare Dungeon of level 46+. After that, you will automatically collect rune shards from various activities, which you will need to open the pit.
Since patch 1.4.2 in Season 4, your new companion will help you collect mats.
You will receive the rune shards approximately:
How many levels does the pit have? According to Blizzard, there are 200 difficulty levels in the pit. The levels of the monsters scale with the level of the pit. At pit level 1, the monsters are level 100, and with each level this increases by 1. At the highest level, you are fighting against monsters at level 299. And they not only have more and more health points, they also deal more and more damage.
How do I increase the level of the pit? If you successfully complete the pit level, the levels available to you when selecting will increase. If you kill the boss and there is still enough time left, you will unlock additional levels. You will be shown how many levels you have unlocked during your playthrough at the end.

The Pit – Endgame Activity Flow
How does the activity work? You open the pit at the “Artificer’s Obelisk” in Cerrigar. There you can select the level of the pit and open it, which “costs” you 3 rune shards. As soon as you go through the portal that opens, the 15-minute timer starts.
In the pit you will find shrines that give you helpful bonuses – such as temporary invulnerability. If your player character dies in the dungeon, time will be deducted from the timer as a punishment:

The Pit – Mats for Completion
What do I get in the pit? In the pit you will receive three different types of crafting materials:
The number of drops increases depending on the pit level. For example, you get around 10 Obducite at pit level 1, and at pit level 30 you get 39 Obducite. Pit level 31 gives you 20 Ingolith, and at pit level 61 you get around 20 Low Iron.
Additionally, Stygian stones can drop in the pit, the chance of this depends on the level of the pit. With patch 1.4.2, the drop chance was increased, and the developers also adapted the pit bosses to the level of the pit. You also get obols at the end of the pit.
You can enter the pit in groups of up to four players. Note that only the person who opens the pit with rune shards has a chance of getting Stygian stones. In addition, this player also gets the majority of the mats – everyone else gets 50% of the materials.
What do I need the mats for? You need the mats for masterworking (completion). This is a new crafting system that was also added in Season 4. Completion improves the affixes on your items and every 4 levels there is a “critical” improvement to an affix.
There are a total of 12 levels of completion for which you need the following mats:
