Between the year 2022 and the year 2023, the reported fraud crimes increased by 21.9 percent. In the autumn of 2024, however, the police announced that the development had started to go in the right direction.
– Reported fraud crimes are at a slightly lower level this year than in 2023, which is gratifying. To say already now that it is a trend break is to claim victory in advance, but the numbers indicate that we are heading in the right direction, said Lotta Mauritzsoncoordinator at the National Fraud Center, i a press release when.
During September last year, fraud decreased by six percent compared to the month before.
– During the year, we have taken great steps forward with cooperation with private actors with the aim of preventing fraud, we hope to see even better effects from this in the future. In addition, the Police Agency has increased reporting to prosecutors in fraud cases, Mauritzson stated at the time.

But despite the reduction, already this year several companies, whose company names are used by fraudsters, have sounded the alarm. Last week, for example, Coop went out and warned of a scam email where the recipient claimed to have won a Tupperware set.
The whole thing was still an attempted fraud and the store chain urged recipients of the email to report the incident to the police.

And now it appears that another company has been exposed.
The Klarna brand is used
At the Safety College, which is an initiative of Theft Protection Associationit appears that information has been received that people have received calls in which a computerized pre-recorded voice claims to be from Klarna International.
According to the site, the goal is for the recipient to make one of the choices stated in the message, which reads as follows:
“Hello, this is an automatic message from Klarna International. We have received a purchase request of 299 euros and that amount will be debited from your account. If you want to cancel this then press one, or to request a refund then press two, or to speak to our representative then press nine.”
The security check also shares an audio file where you can hear the message in its entirety. Here you can listen to it.

When News24 contacts Klarna states Joel Hedinpress officer at the company, that no outgoing calls are made or consumers are asked to log in or provide personal information.
“We only call after agreement and if the customer has requested this, and it then becomes clear that it concerns an ongoing matter that the customer is already aware of,” writes Hedin in an email and continues:
“Unfortunately, fraudsters try to use our brand, just as they do with big banks and highly trusted Swedish companies, to deceive consumers. It is important that consumers are alert and contact the company’s customer service if they have the slightest doubt.”
At Säkerhetskollen, the call to the recipient of the call is clear: “Hang up the phone”.
