First steps, first dribbles and first shots for Victor Wembanyama on the floor and with the Spurs jersey on his back. “Wemby”, as he is already nicknamed here, got to know the AT1T Center, the room where he will now play.
The Texas team expects a lot from the player, but also from the person. General manager Brian Wright told him personally: We look forward to growing with you, supporting you, challenging you, especially Coach (Gregg) Popovich, and there will be challenges in your journey, in life and in basketball. »
Victor Wembanyama knows it. He also asked coach Gregg Popovich to push him to his limits. But since arriving in the city less than 24 hours earlier, the young Frenchman felt a lot of heat. And he appreciates the welcome:
” Everywhere I went I was warmly welcomed. So it’s really comfortable. I’m really happy to be in this position. People have shown me love so far, lots of love. And I think I can give it all back to the fans, to the community, to the team, to the city and even to the state. I want to do a lot off the pitch. »
And Victor Wembanyama says it: he intends to stay for a long time in Texas.
