The man is aged 35 and lives near the area where the attack on the policeman occurred.
It was on Sunday that a police patrol was supposed to check a man on Österängen in Jönköping, who was said to show signs of mental illness. When the patrol encountered the man, he attacked with a sharp knife and injured a policeman very seriously.
The condition of the policeman
At first, the policeman’s condition was life-threatening, but on Tuesday it was assessed to be stable. He remains at the hospital in Linköping.
The suspected perpetrator was shot in connection with the intervention. He has not been able to be heard until today, but is now served with criminal suspicion and arrested, suspected of having tried to murder two police officers.
Black magic
He has previously been convicted of threatening an official and violent resistance after an incident in February 2020, when security guards rejected him from a shopping center.
On that occasion, according to the verdict, he disturbed shop staff by talking about black magic, evil energies and witches. In questioning, one of the security guards tells them that the man is known to them as “not completely stable”.
He is now suspected of two counts of attempted murder and aggravated weapons offences.
