The games have been prepared since 2019. The competition center rises to Kuopio’s Tahkovuori.
Preparations for the 2025 World Orienteering Championships in Kuopio are increasing. In connection with the games, a Fin5 orientation week will be organized, for which registration will begin at the beginning of August.
Orienteers from around 50 different countries come to the World Championship competitions organized at the beginning of July, and an average of 3,500 competitors participate in the Fin5 orienteering week every year. The 2025 races are the cross-country world championships, so the program of the race week includes middle distance, long distance and relay.
Secretary General of the Games Sakari Hyvönen praises the activity of the workers. He himself takes care of the general secretary of the games full-time and is on leave from his job as a teacher.
– At first, the idea was that the competitions would be handled entirely by the own club. But fortunately, additional help has come from all over Finland, such lifestyle talkers.
The center of the event is Tahkovuori in Nilsiä, Kuopio. There are also competition venues in Kuopio’s Neulaniemi and near the Puijo stadium. In terms of orienteering, the areas in question are prohibited from training and competition until next summer.
World Orienteering 2025 is the fifth time for the sport’s World Championships in Finland. Previously, the competitions were organized in 1966 in Fiskar, 1979 and 2001 in Tampere, and 2013 in Vuokatti.
