The Penguin surprises in the finale with 2 direct connections

The Penguin is the first series from the Batman Epic Crime Sagawhich began with The Batman two years ago. It’s no wonder that there has been speculation about an appearance by the Dark Knight since the project was announced. Does Robert Pattinson’s Batman appear in The Penguin? That was the central question for months.

Be careful, follow it spoiler!

Although series creator Lauren LeFranc explicitly said before the start that the series focuses on the story of Oswald “Oz” Cobb, played by Colin Farrell, and that Bruce Wayne is not a part of it, some fans waited until the last second for a sign of life from Gotham’s avenger hoped.

And actually: In the end there were at least two indirect cameos.

The Penguin Episode 8: The finale of the DC series finally brings Batman and Catwoman into play

Although most of the time The Penguin feels more like a gangster drama à la The Sopranos that just accidentally strayed into the DC universe, in the last minutes of the finale the link to The Batman is very clearly drawn, specifically in the form of Batman and Catwoman – but without Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz.

The Catwoman cameo in The Batman explained

Near the end of the final episodes of The Penguin, Dr. Julian Rush (Theo Rossi) opens Sofia Falcone’s (Cristin Milioti) cell at Arkham Asylum and gives her a letter from a certain Selina Kyle comes from. Nothing rings for Sofia. To explain, he adds that she claims to be Sofia’s half-sister.

In The Batman we learn that Selina Kyle aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz) is the daughter of Carmine Falcone (John Turturro/Mark Strong). However, the mafia boss kept their existence quiet so that not even Sofia, who otherwise knows all the dirty family secrets or has experienced them first hand, knew about it.

Is the letter delivery a little teaser that Sofia and Selina will team up in the future? Milioti reveals to The Direct:

[Sofia] is one of my favorite roles. It would be my greatest wish to play it again. I’m just obsessed with her. And I believe if [Sofia und Selina Kyle] If we were united, we would really tear everything to pieces. I don’t know how to say it…we’d just burn it down. In a funny way. I think we would have a lot of fun.

The Batman cameo in The Penguin explained

In the very last scene of The Penguin, Batman (Robert Pattinson) finally shows a sign of life. Just at the point where Oz (Colin Farrell) believes he has seized power over Gotham, the reminder that there is a vigilante maintaining law and order in the city looms on the horizon.

The Bat Signal is thrown into the cloudy night sky with a spotlight. Larger than life, we see the familiar shape of a bat surrounded by a circle. It may even have been Detective James Gordon (Jeff Wright) who flipped the switch to remind all criminals of Batman’s existence.

This means the series makes the perfect transition to The Batman Part II, which begins a few weeks after the events of The Penguin. Colin Farrell’s villain will definitely appear in the cinematic sequel to the Batman Epic Crime Saga. However, it is unclear what happens to Cristin Milioti and Zoë Kravitz as Sofia Falcone and Selina Kyle.

When does The Batman Part II start in cinemas?

The Batman Part II opens on October 1, 2026 in German cinemas. The film marks the third project in the Batman Epic Crime Saga. Further spin-offs such as The Penguin have not yet been announced.
