“Sé-cu-ri-té”: this is the central slogan of the campaign presented on Sunday by the Social Democratic Party (SPD) in Germany. Security for retirements, more growth, more money in your pocket… In short, with Olaf Scholzthe Germans must be reassured, while the country is in recession, its model is failing and voters have low morale.

Will that be enough to convince in seven weeks? The SPD is still not taking off in the polls, where it remains around 16%, while the Christian Democrats (CDU) achieve scores twice as high. Friedrich MerzOlaf Scholz’s conservative challenger, seems well on his way to the chancellery. The Germans would see him there alongside the Social Democrats, a constellation reminiscent of the Merkel years, but with a CDU which has in the meantime made a turn to the right wing.

Environmentalists, who launch their campaign on Monday January 6, hope to turn around after difficult months. Olaf Scholz’s current allies are banking on the popularity of their leading contender, the current Minister of the Economy, Robert Habeck.

The far right will undoubtedly be the big winner in the future election, with 20% of voting intentions today. The head of the AfD, Alice Weidelwill discuss Thursday evening on the X platform with his fervent support, the billionaire Elon Musk.
