Marie Yngvesson’s best friend called in a panic after yesterday’s explosion in Linköping.
Ten minutes later she was there and witnessed the devastation.
– It was a war zone, it was the worst I’ve seen. You could only see a hole straight in, the stairwell was completely gone, she says.
Shortly after 06:00 on Tuesday morning, SOS Alarm received several calls about loud bangs on Ekholmen in Linköping.
– There was a powerful explosion that occurred in a residential building and we have extensive material damage there, says police spokesperson Angelica Israelsson Silfver.
Marie Yngvesson’s best friend lives in the house where the detonation occurred. Shortly after the explosion, her friend called in a panic.
– Yesterday morning I woke up to the phone ringing, it was my best friend. She screamed hysterically that it was a bomb, she says.
Marie Yngvesson and her husband threw themselves into the car and drove towards the crime scene. Ten minutes later they were there.
– It was a war zone, it was the worst I’ve seen. You could only see a hole straight in, the stairwell was completely gone. Had to wait for the fire department to take her out of the third floor because she couldn’t get out via the stairwell. She was terribly shocked, she says.
Yngvesson’s best friend had first noticed a rattling sound, before the explosion occurred.
– She thought the neighbor had fallen, then she didn’t have time to think any more before there was a bang. Tiles had fallen on top of her and the door to the toilet was ripped off and flew away. A wardrobe door flew into another room, says Marie Yngvesson.
Police are looking for runners
At the moment, the police are classifying the incident as public destruction and a violation of the Act on Flammable and Explosive Goods.
– But we may change the classification, says Torbjörn Lindqvist.
Police are interested in contacting two specific witnesses.
“A person must have been out for a run near the crime scene in connection with the detonation. Another person must have cycled by at the same time,” the police write on their website.
A 25-year-old woman was taken to hospital by ambulance for a check-up. She should not be seriously injured.
No suspect has yet been arrested.
