The Palestinian government resigns and makes room for reforms

Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh submitted his resignation to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas

Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority Mohammad Shtayyeh has submitted his resignation to the Palestinian president to Mahmoud Abbas.

The request for secession may be the first sign that at this moment only the Palestinian Authority, which controls the West Bank, is starting the reforms that will enable it to take control of Gaza as well.

The United States has proposed that Gaza should be ruled by a moderate Palestinian administration after Israel’s withdrawal.

Shtayyeh’s government has mainly consisted of representatives of the moderate Fatah party, while Gaza has been led by dissident Hamas, classified as a terrorist organization, which Israel is now forcibly evicting.
