Overwatch 2 launched on Steam on August 10th, and after just a few days, it was already boasting the title of “The Worst Game on Steam”. Now the boss of Overwatch 2 has expressed what you think of it.
Overwatch 2 is Blizzard’s first PC release since the introduction of the Battle.net launcher. But the release is not well received. The game now has almost 150,000 ratings (as of August 19, 2023) and the status on Steam is “extremely negative”. This has made Overwatch 2 the worst game on Steam – at least when it comes to users.
In addition to criticism of Blizzard and the bad FPS values, there are also a number of negative reviews that only express themselves with memes or recipes.
Chef can understand that many are unhappy about canceled PvE content
How is Blizzard reacting? In a blog post, Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller said:
While it’s no fun being bombarded with reviews, it’s been great to see so many new players jumping into Overwatch 2 for the first time.
Many of the reviews on Steam mention the removal of the much larger PvE component announced in 2019 as one of the main reasons for their dissatisfaction with the game. I understand that. This announcement was about an ambitious project that we ultimately could not implement.
If we can’t turn back the clock, what can we do? We can continue to expand and improve Overwatch 2.
Keller also explained that they want to continue developing the game and add more features. However, he did not reveal in the post what was planned for the future.
But Overwatch 2’s hero mode, which was simply scrapped, may never return. And that’s what most players criticize on Steam and on the official Blizzard forums.
Release on Steam is a huge success, despite scathing reviews
How is the game doing on Steam? Surprisingly good. Despite the many negative reviews, around 50,000 players are still playing Blizzard’s hero shooter on Steam every day. Some of the new game even climbed into the top 10 bestsellers on Steam, even though it’s officially a Free2play game. But that suggests that many players are willing to put money into Overwatch 2.
Blizzard should have achieved its goal of finding a new user group for its shooter. Especially if Blizzard succeeds in keeping the new players on board.
Are there PvE missions in Overwatch 2? Yes, there is, and Cortyn tried out the content for you. But the price for the handful of missions is pretty steep. You can read more about this directly on MeinMMO:
