The society was founded in 1881, so it is more than 140 years old. Bordeaux have won six French championships, most recently in 2009. They played in the Uefa Cup final in 1996.

Bordeaux last played in the French 2nd league, but was relegated to the third league level at the end of last season by administrative decision.
