The Outlast Trials review Early access

The Outlast Trials review takes a look at the game’s outline in the early access release and takes a closer look at how the game has evolved.

The Outlast Trials review (Early access): The Outlast Trials is a game that takes the Outlast series, which was first introduced 6 years ago, in a whole new direction, but promises to stay true to its essence. We had the opportunity to access The Outlast Trials Early Access version, which took its place in the stores with the Early Access version on May 18, with the code provided by the producer, and we had the chance to see how the game evolved in the past days.

The Outlast Trials takes us to Murkoff Corporation experiments during the Cold War and allows us to test them firsthand. When you say the test, don’t expect multiple choice questions or “which honey is more delicious”, here you get the opportunity to see how useful you can be in the face of events that will push your mental and physical limits. Moreover, you are not alone, there are other subjects like you and you can take the tests together.

These Tests Are Killing The Man

The first thing that comes to mind when you think of Outlast is the night vision feature, at least that’s what comes to mind for me. This time, we can see around not with extra devices such as a video camera, but with night vision glasses, which have become a part of our body. Night vision can be a useful feature in the environments where they leave us, but it is necessary to use other things in the environment in order not to use it unnecessarily. It’s also important to be wary of toxins that disrupt our mental health, other people who have already lost their minds, and things that pose a direct threat to us (I didn’t say human).

The parts I played were spent trying to survive in Murkoff’s private facilities, each on maps with different themes, taking tests filled with traps, prop dummies, and dangerous creatures to match that theme. Each of these tests promised me development points that would allow me to pass future tests more easily, and finally true freedom. Unless I get beaten to death for accidentally stepping on the window and making a noise.

We can create our own character and customize it within a certain limit. There are a lot of different customization options such as hair beard, clothes, visual features. It’s not as detailed as you can create your dream character, but our goal here is to survive, I think it’s enough. Moreover, we even have a small cell that we can customize with items. It’s still a cell though.

First of all, we enter the tests empty-handed, but we can find materials that will distract the enemies, drugs that will improve both our physical and mental health, and things that can turn the situation in our favor. Murkoff doesn’t send us completely empty, actually, the night vision goggles they “put” on our heads are free! There are also equipment that can stop enemies for a short time, restore our health, or allow us to see behind walls. We can buy the equipment we can use in the tests from the center, and we can improve ourselves and our equipment with the points we get at the end of the test.

How Much Has the Co-Op Game Impacted?

The name of the game may be Outlast, but how good the second game is is open to debate. While playing Outlast Trials, I felt close to the tension and horror of the first game. There are many places where you get nervous while playing the game alone, jumpscare elements, which are indispensable for new horror games, of course support this. Luckily they didn’t exaggerate the jumpscare thing as much as I feared, which is a plus.

You can expect a game that stands out with its co-op feature to be badly planned when playing alone (for example, Redfall), but the episodes I have played so far did not bother even when you were alone.

It’s too early to comment on the Co-op side of the game, I had a chance to test it last October in the beta, but a lot of development has been done on that beta. During the time I played, I did not have the opportunity to gain any co-op experience. After the game is released as Early Access, I may play a little more and update this part. However, while I was wandering around, there were many points where I thought, “What would it be like if there was one more person next to me”. I expect it to be an enjoyable experience.

The Outlast Trials review (early access)

The Outlast Trials will be released in Early Access on May 18. via Steam as well as via Epic Games will be available for sale. The parts I’ve tried so far have managed to give me the first Outlast feel, and that’s a pretty good first impression. I think the co-op part will take some of the tension from the game and balance it with the horrors of what your teammates do.

It is not yet clear how long the Early Access process will last, but the game seems to be playable even as it is. Difficulty balance seemed out of order for me in some parts, but I feel like my lack of skill in stealth games has an effect on this. I also ran into some bugs, but they’re all things I can accept in Early Access. As it stands, the game looks very good, has almost no problems in terms of performance, and its gameplay is very enjoyable for those who love the genre.

More test zones, new abilities, and character customizations are said to be coming throughout Early Access. It is also stated that character development will be handled in more detail. It seems like a game that will be liked by players who both like the first Outlast game and want to experience a fun horror – Co-op. Also, the game comes with Turkish language support! This is good news for gamers.
