NASA’s Orion probe returned to Earth from space on Sunday. The probe fell into the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California on Sunday around 19:40 Finnish time.

The Orion probe’s journey around the Moon was part of the US space administration’s NASA Artemis program. Its goal is to take a man to the Moon again in the next few years.

And later maybe also to Mars.

NASA’s original goal for returning to the Moon was already 2024, but the schedule has been extended to at least 2025.

The flight included mannequins simulating humans, with the help of which the main aim was to monitor how much a person is exposed to cosmic radiation during a long space flight.

Among other things, systems with which human life can be maintained in space have also been tested.

Orion’s closest approach was about 130 kilometers from the surface of the Moon.

The story was updated at 19:51 after Orion fell into the sea.
