The opposition wants a crisis commission against the violence – the government says no

After the weekend’s deadly shooting violence, the Police Union wants all parties in the Riksdag to be part of a crisis commission. Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M) has earlier in the day said no to the proposal, citing that a commission with all parties risks creating new deadlocks.

However, all parties in the opposition welcome the proposal.

– The government must listen to this – if you don’t, you ignore these serious situations and the accelerating violence. We have to sit down together and discuss this, says Nooshi Dadgostar (V) to SVT before tonight’s party leader debate.

Magdalena Andersson (S) thinks it is unfortunate that the government says no to a crisis commission.

“There is only one Sweden”

– We need a national collection to increase security in our country. There may be new proposals, especially about how to break the new recruitment to the gangs. We are in a new situation that requires new measures, she says.

The Center Party’s Muharrem Demirok is also prepared to approve the police union’s request.

– It is unfortunate that you see this polarization in a red and a blue Sweden. For me there is only one Sweden, he says.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) goes against the opposition and says that more meetings are not the right way to go. On the other hand, he calls on all parties with concrete proposals to present them.

– I have respect for the police’s frustration, but we have tried meetings and meetings for many years – with meager results, he says.
