The opposition critical of nuclear proposals: “Springnota”

Already this summer, the power companies can seek state support to start building new reactors in Sweden.

The support will be given to four new reactors, a cost that is estimated to amount to a total of SEK 400 billion, where the state will account for SEK 300 billion in the form of loans. This was announced by the government and the Swedish Democrats on Thursday.

The Social Democrats are not against the construction of new nuclear power in Sweden, but are critical of the lack of details in the government’s framework.

– How much will it cost, who will pay, and when can it be in place. These are questions that I think most people had expected that the government would answer today, says Fredrik Olovsson (S) business policy spokesperson.

C: “At the expense of taxpayers”

Rickard Nordin, spokesperson on the issue for the Center Party, says there are energy options that are both cheaper and faster.

– But the government has not even bothered to investigate. You are prepared to take a running note for nuclear power at the expense of taxpayers.

The support that the government wants to offer is favorable loans, a price guarantee if the electricity price becomes too low, and that you should share the risk if things go bad.

State Vattenfall states that they are preparing an application for support for the fall while Fortum will wait until 2026.

In Thursday’s Aktuellt, Finance Minister Niklas Wykman (M) and the language tube Daniel Helldén debate state loans to new nuclear power. See the whole debate here.
