National team midfielder Kristoffer Olsson is seriously ill and is being treated on a ventilator at Århus hospital.
For FC Midtjylland, the match on Sunday was difficult – when no one could talk about the situation.
– We had agreed to keep it a secret with Kristoffer’s family, says the club’s CEO Claus Steinlein to Tipsbladet.
The notice that Kristoffer Olsson suffered from a serious brain disease came last Tuesday.
But FC Midtjylland knew that their celebrated midfielder was bad there already before Sunday’s match against AGF in Århus.
– For us, Sunday’s match was very special. We knew it had happened and had talked about it, but we couldn’t tell anyone, says Claus Steinlein.

The club manager reflects on the time that has followed since Olsson was hospitalized with an as yet unidentified brain disease.
– It has been a tough, tough period for FC Midtjylland. It has been a very special time when football has not been the most important thing. It has been an emotional day for players, coaches and all employees of the club.
“So moving”
In recent days, the whole of football Europe has shown its support for Kristoffer Olsson.
In Midtjylland’s match against FC Copenhagen on Friday, a joint tribute to the Swede is also planned.
– It has been touching to see the incredible support from the entire football family. Even though we are rivals on the field, we stand united when horrible events like this happen. We are very grateful for that.
– Kristoffer is a fantastic person. The only thing that is important now is that he recovers and that the family gets the peace and support they need.
Also Midtjylland’s coach Thomas Thomasberg has spoken about Olsson’s illness.
“Kristoffer is surrounded by the foremost health experts. We all have faith and hope that things will go well for him,” he told the club’s website.
